SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A fatal crash is blocking East Trent Avenue westbound in Spokane Valley.

According to Spokane Regional Transportation Management Council, the crash happened just before 5:30 p.m.

Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash as a hit and run.

WSP says two cars crashed head on. Detectives are currently investigating the scene.

Skyfest 2026 takes flight at Fairchild Air Force Base

SPOKANE, Wash. — Tens of thousands of people flocked to Fairchild Air Force Base Saturday for the opening of Skyfest 2026.

Thirteen aircraft performed aerial shows throughout the day. Visitors could also explore grounded aircraft on display.

"We brought all of these amazing aircrafts out for an amazing event of airpower this weekend," said Karianne Ernisse, Skyfest 2026 airshow director. "We are hoping to give the community a nice thank you."

Pilots said the experience thrills them as much as spectators.

"When we are in the airplane, the best way to describe it is like being in the arena or the football stadium if you are an NFL player," said Scott Kartvedt, a pilot. "Its 26 minutes of sheer professionalism, intensity and great flying."

The airshow celebrates America's 250th anniversary and the 82nd anniversary of D-Day.

"This airshow is very committed to honoring our veterans, looking back at our history, knowing we have to honor those folks," Ernisse said.

Participants feel the weight of honoring past service members.

"In a lot of ways I think it makes a lot of us feel inadequate, cause we see those amazing sacrifices, the incredible heroism, the intense dedication," Ernisse said. "And you want to repay that as best as you can, but it is almost an impossible debt to pay."

Two World War II veterans will be honored Sunday. One is 99 years old and the other is 105.

"We are gonna have two World War Two veterans join us for the D-Day portion of our airshow," Ernisse said. "We'd love to have people come out to support our World War 2 veterans."

The airshow continues Sunday.

Evacuation notices canceled for wildfire near Soap Lake in Grant County

GRANT COUNTY, Wash. -- UPDATE: The Grant County Sheriff's Office says evacuation notices have been canceled for a wildfire in rural Soap Lake.

Firefighters are still in the area working to mop up the fire.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office is telling people near Road 18.8 NE/Division .5 NE in Soap Lake to prepare to evacuate.

The Sheriff's Office says there is currently a wildfire in the area.

Anyone in the area should leave if they are in danger. Residents should prepare to leave their homes at a moment's notice.

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -- Summer is fast approaching in the Inland Northwest, and Spokane Tribal Police has some tips for how to protect you and your family this fire season.

You can prepare now for this year's wildfire season by creating defensible space around your home, cleaning gutters, putting together a go-bag with essentials and creating an evacuation plan.

Spokane Tribal Police says to create defensible space, you must clear out all vegetation within 30 feet from your home. Keep woodpiles and flammable materials at least 30 feet from your home as well.

If a fire breaks out in your area, it is a good idea to close up all windows, doors and fire-resistant blinds to prevent smoke and embers from getting inside. Leave outside lights on so your home is visible through thick smoke.

Hikers rescued from ledge in Bayview

KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho -- Two hikers were rescued off a ledge in Bayview on Friday.

According to Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, multiple organizations were required to help get the hikers to safety.

Both hikers were thankfully not injured.

Man killed in Idaho ATV accident

SPIRIT LAKE, Idaho - Idaho State Police is investigating an ATV crash that killed a man in Spirit Lake early Saturday morning.

The crash happened just after midnight near 170 That A Way Road in Spirit Lake.

ISP says a 43-year-old man from Oldtown, Idaho was driving the ATV, which went off the road and into the woods.

The driver was ejected and died at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

Fairchild Air Force base hosts Skyfest 2026 spectacular event

SPOKANE, Wash. — Fairchild Air Force Base will host SkyFest 2026 starting Saturday morning, featuring aerial performances and military aircraft displays designed to honor America's military and thank the local community.

The air show opens at 9 a.m. Saturday and will showcase 13 flying acts along with dozens of static aircraft displays for visitors to explore.

Performers conducted final practice runs Friday as pilots prepared for the weekend show. The powerful aircraft create ground-shaking vibrations as they streak across the sky.

"Like our commander and pilot always says, it's like strapping yourself to a rocket ship," said Blayne Denke of the U.S. F-16 Demonstration Team.

The event expects to draw tens of thousands of spectators who will witness fighter jets and other military aircraft in action.

"It's really a showcase of not only just the technology, but of what your United States Air Force is about," Denke said. "I think it's really important for people to realize and understand that people don't typically get to see the fighter jets and all of the cool stuff that we are able to do."

Katherine Reid, public affairs officer at Fairchild Air Force Base, said the event thanks the community for supporting airmen.

"It's our way to say thank you to the community. They've been supporting our airmen every single day," Reid said. "We have some really exciting static displays and aerial teams performing this weekend."

Family demands answers in Spokane shooting case

SPOKANE, Wash. — The family of a woman shot and killed in Browne's Addition last weekend is demanding answers from prosecutors about why the shooter remains free without charges.

Shareya Quarles-Rodriguez was killed by her boyfriend Tucker Mosley, who told police she came at him with a knife. However, investigators never found a knife at the scene, according to court documents.

Rodriguez's sister Anessa was one of the last people to speak with her before the shooting.

"I said 'I love you sis'. She said, 'I love you too, lock your door' and that's the last thing I heard from her," Anessa Rodriguez said.

Police reports indicate there was no urgency from Mosley in getting Rodriguez to the hospital after she was shot. Security cameras captured audio of Mosley asking the wounded Rodriguez to open his car door herself.

"That doesn't sound like self-defense. You love her, right? That's your girl, right? For six years, right? You have a kid with her, and you're telling her to do it all herself. It doesn't make sense," said Quincy Hofer, a friend of Rodriguez.

The family says Mosley has a history of domestic violence with Rodriguez and worries he might flee the state. Because prosecutors haven't filed charges, Mosley was released pending the investigation.

The Spokane County Prosecutor's Office says it cannot file charges until the police investigation is complete and continues to evaluate whether the shooting was self-defense.

Man killed in crash on Hangman Valley Road

SPOKANE, Wash. — A man was killed Friday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Hangman Valley Road, about 16 miles south of Spokane, according to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said the driver left the roadway and crashed into a tree. The victim was the vehicle’s sole occupant.

Investigators said speed was a factor in the crash.

The victim's name has yet to be released.
